The Traffic Light Tree is an artwork by artist Pierre Vivant. It's located in London.

Pancake day

 Shrove Tuesday (also known as Pancake Tuesday) is the day preceding Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Shrove Tuesday is determined by Easter; its date changes annually. This year is on Tuesday March the 4th.

B&B

A bed and breakfast  (or B&B) is a small hotel or boarding house that offers overnight accommodation and breakfast, but usually does not offer other meals. They used to be private homes with fewer than 10 rooms.

Commonwealth countries

       

The Commonwealth of Nations is a voluntary association of 54 independent or sovereign states. Most of them used to be part of the British colonies but none of them exercises power over the others. They co-operate within a framework of common values and goals.

Queen Elisabeth II is the Head of the Commonwealth although she doesn't have any power over any Commonwealth member states; it's a purely symbolic position.

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day or Poppy Day is a special day observed in England to remember all those men and women who were killed during the two World Wars.

The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month marks the sign of the Armistice, to signal the end of World War One.

The Sunday nearest to 11 November is Remembrance Sunday. Special services are held at war memorials and churches all over Britain. At 11 a.m. people across Britain hold a two minute silence to remember the millions who have died in war.

The week before 11 November, you'll see people in the streets and on TV wearing a poppy. They are red flowers made of card and they have been used since 1920 to commemorate soldiers who have died in war. Poppies are also used to raise money for people whose lifes have been changed by war.

British food: Fish and chips

Fish and chips are popular restaurants in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa. 

They offer battered fish, which is deep-fried and it's served with chips to eat in ot take away.
